Yee San Su, Ph.D.
Center Chief Scientist

Dr. Yee San Su is an expert in analysis and assessments, particularly in the field of homeland security. Since 2008, he has been a researcher and project manager in CNA's Safety & Security Division, where he currently serves as a Senior Research Scientist. His work focuses on the intersection of risk, capability development, and preparedness investment. This includes developing and applying analytical methods and frameworks to better assess state- and national-level homeland security preparedness. Dr. Su has extensive experience in scoping analytic tasks, metric development, data collection and management, subject-matter-expert elicitation, and modeling and simulation. He has led development of analytical reports for legislative and executive branch stakeholders, including the 2015, 2016, and 2017 National Preparedness Reports.

Prior to CNA, Dr. Su spent two years as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow in residence at the Environmental Protection Agency's National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC). While at the NHSRC, he provided technical expertise to senior leadership on a broad range of topics, including risk and systems analysis, microbial risk assessment, and nanotechnology. Before being awarded an AAAS fellowship, Dr. Su was a technical consultant at Exponent, Inc., a leading engineering and scientific consulting firm. There, he consulted on more than 50 litigation cases—involving hazardous chemical releases, fires and explosions, and complex chemical systems—in which he performed risk assessments and engineering analyses, as well as created mathematical models and ran simulations.
