James Bellacqua
James Bellacqua’s research focuses on US and Chinese foreign policy in Southeast Asia, People’s Republic of China media and strategic communications, and US relations with Vietnam. He directs an ongoing effort to analyze People’s Republic of China media reactions to US military operations and activities in the Indo-Pacific.
Before joining CNA, Bellacqua served as a Chinese media analyst for the US government’s Foreign Broadcast Information Service. In addition to his work at CNA, Bellacqua is a member of the advisory board for the Interpret China initiative of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Bellacqua holds a Master of Business Administration from American University and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian studies from Lewis and Clark College. Bellacqua speaks, reads, and writes Mandarin Chinese fluently.
