Fred Bomse, Ph.D.
Principal Research Scientist

Fred Bomse is an expert in Naval/military applications of Directed Energy and Electric Weapons. Recent research topics include shipboard power and energy requirements and appropriate energy storage systems to support such weapons. A considerable body of previous work also dealt with analyses of their effectiveness including how laser radiation propagates to targets of interest and its subsequent lethality. Similar analyses have been performed for electromagnetic railguns. The studies date back to the early 1980s. Prior to joining CNA Bomse was an Assistant Professor in the Vanderbilt University Physics Department doing research in high energy elementary particle physics. He has a PhD in Physics from Johns Hopkins University and speaks English. He understand a modicum of French but is not fluent in it.
