Vincent Bauer
- Data Science Integration
Vincent Bauer’s areas of expertise include machine learning, simulation modeling, personnel readiness, and defense industrial base capacity. Bauer has worked to enhance the use of data science, analytics, and forecasting across the Department of the Navy.
As the research program director for CNA’s Data Science Predictive Analytics team, he leads data scientists who provide analytical support grounded in machine learning to the Navy, especially for the Performance-to-Plan efforts under the Vice Chief of Naval Operations. The program facilitates data-driven decision-making through predictive capabilities that yield more accurate forecasts and point toward improved performance. The team’s data scientists combine high-level skills in Python, R, cloud computing, and databases, with operational experience from working directly with commanders and operating forces.
Bauer received a PhD in political science from Stanford University, where he applied methods from data science and causal inference to military operations. He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and Middle Eastern studies from the University of Chicago. He is also proficient in Arabic.
