Alison Rimsky Vernon
Senior Research Scientist


Alison Vernon joined CNA in 1999 and is an expert in evaluating and assessing US Navy military operations, especially those that use the military for soft power purposes. She has assessed over 15 deployments across the world and conducted data gathering in multiple countries in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Currently, Vernon works in organizational assessment and design and has supported various USN and USMC commands, including OPNAV, CNIC, MARFORCOM, and MARFOREUR/AF. Vernon spent her early years at CNA focusing on civil-military relations as well as performing a broad overview of military strategy, plans, and operations in the 1990s.

Prior to joining CNA, Vernon worked for the Brookings Institution and the Organization of American States. She also received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct her dissertation research in Romania. She is ABD for her PhD in Comparative Political Science from The Ohio State University. She speaks Spanish, Romanian, and Portuguese.
