Heidi Holz is a research scientist in the CNA China Studies Division. Her research interests include China's media environment, PRC maritime policies and activities, particularly those related to the South China Sea, Chinese military doctrine and operations, as well as U.S.-China military-to-military relations.
Before joining CNA, Holz was a biodefense analyst and China specialist with the Division of Integrated Biodefense at Georgetown University's Imaging Science and Information Systems Center. She also worked at the Voice of America's Mandarin Service.
Holz holds an M.A. in security studies and a B.S. in foreign service, with a focus on Chinese and East Asian history, both from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. She has also studied Mandarin Chinese in Beijing at Peking University and Tsinghua University. In addition to Mandarin Chinese, she has Spanish language capabilities.
