
Sarah Smedley, Ph.D.
Research Scientist
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Sarah Smedley leads CNA's operational and strategic level wargame portfolio. She has experience designing and executing wargames for DoD and the Intelligence Community with an emphasis on force development, emerging technologies and systems, defense strategy, and climate change. Recently, Dr. Smedley's work has focused on the following issues: the operational impacts of alternative and future defense strategies, the requirements for a far-future Navy strategy and the effect on force development, and the global and national security impacts of climate change.
Dr. Smedley is currently serving as a policy analyst in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development. In this position, she serves as an expert on the Emerging Technology and Power Projection portfolios.
Prior to joining CNA, Sarah earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University, and a B.S. in Chemistry from Virginia Tech.
