Long Littoral Project East China and Yellow Seas
/reports/2012/long-littoral-project-east-china-and-yellow-seas
Over the past two years, the South China Sea has been the most discussed East Asian maritime security issue. Still, a credible case can be made that the Yellow and East China seas have all the ingredients necessary to become another maritime center of competition in East Asia. Approximately 70 percent of China’s eastern seaboard forms the western limit of the East China Sea/Yellow Sea basin, while the Ryukyu Chain is the East China Sea’s eastern boundary. Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Pyongyang all have important claims of sovereignty and exclusive economic zones (EEZs) in both of these seas. Disputes over seabed resources and fishing occur frequently among all three.

coming in from the cold: The UFO Phenomenon: Dealing with the Inconceivable

In 1947 Kenneth Arnold, a salesman from Boise, Idaho, was flying over Washington State in a private plane. Sometime around 3 p.m., Arnold saw a series of bright flashing lights and a group of nine flying objects moving in formation. He said the objects moved as though “skipping on water.” The media took the image and ran with it. The term “flying saucers” was born. This was the beginning of a wave of UFO sightings. During the following month, newspapers covered more than 850 UFO cases in over 90 cities across the U.S. and Canada. These reported sightings alarmed the U.S. national security establishment. Just what was going on in the skies over North America? Guests Ken Gause and Ralph Espach join Bill to discuss this wave of UFO sightings and the response of the U.S. Government.

They believe that Kim Jong Un's 2018 New Year’s Day speech indicated a shift from a brinkmanship to an engagement posture, as well as a shift in focus from the nuclear program to economic progress. They explain how Kim’s strategic calculus differs from his father's, what is at stake for the regime and its legitimacy, and North Korea's uneasy relationships with South Korea, China, and the United States.

Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Are No Fad for These Defense Analysts
/our-media/press-releases/2021/06-25
CNA analysts with long-standing interest in UFO research welcome others to the conversation about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) as the Pentagon prepares to release its report on the topic to Congress. CNA experts have been out in front of this discussion since the 2019 launch of the podcast Coming in From the Cold.
and CNA colleagues Ken Gause and Ralph Espach also lead an informal group of CNA experts who are exploring the topic of UAP independently and sharing their findings within the community. "I have been studying the UFO phenomenon for thirty years and there are two things I've learned. First, the more you study the phenomenon, the clearer it becomes that it's real and not easily explained." Gause said
