Russia Studies Program

Russia poses unique challenges to the US homeland, American interests abroad, our allies, and the transition to a new era of peace and prosperity. From the United States to Europe, Central Asia, and the Indo-Pacific, CNA’s Russia Studies Program provides deep analysis, critical insights, and actionable recommendations to military and civilian leaders on Russian military capabilities, the Russian way of war, Russian foreign policy, and complex strategic issues. Program staff include analysts with native fluency in Russian, social science and historical training, and extensive knowledge of military operations and strategy. CNA’s experience in open-source, Russian-language research goes back to famous studies on Soviet naval doctrine in the 1960s—a legacy that continues today.
