AI Tool for First Responders in Finals for Civic Solutions Challenge
A CNA tool to aid first responders in disasters is competing today as a finalist in the Sourcewell Ventures Civic Solutions Challenge at the Smart Cities Connect conference. CNA will be presenting its First Responder Awareness Monitoring during Emergencies, or FRAME™ solution. This machine learning algorithm collates vast quantities of data from smart city sensors, interprets that data, and aggregates it into a common operating picture to provide increased situational awareness during an emergency.
The concept builds off FRAME’s™ first-place win in the Smart Communities, Smart Responders: An Artificial Intelligence for Internet of Things Prize Competition. In both competitions, this prototype distinguished itself by working within technology that is already used by first responders to reduce the friction between ideas and implementation. In that spirit, the team behind FRAME™ decided to visualize the data on a popular geospatial mapping tool for first responders, to make the data actionable and intuitive.

The Civic Solutions Challenge recognizes providers of digital infrastructure technologies across three key focus areas: Operational GovTech, Public Safety Tech, and Public & Community Wellbeing Tech. Each finalist brings a solution to a pressing need facing public agencies and the communities they serve. Finalists will pitch live at the Smart Cities Connect conference in National Harbor, MD, September 22–24. One or more winners will be selected to enter a structured pilot agreement with a public agency partner.
