Dr. Greggory J. Schell is an expert is the development of analytics and algorithms, including machine learning and predictive analytics, to optimize Navy outcomes. He leads CNA’s Data Science for Sustainment Program, which supports decision-makers in costing, readiness, and logistics with advanced data analytics.

Dr. Schell joined CNA in 2015 as a research analyst in the Resources and Force Readiness Division, conducting analyses on aviation maintenance, sailor supply chains, and Navy healthcare challenges. In 2018, he became a founding member of CNA’s data science team, continuing his work on Navy aviation, manpower, and logistics issues. Since 2020, he has led CNA’s work to bring data science to bear on the some of the Navy’s most complex problems in force optimization and readiness.

He earned his PhD in industrial and operations engineering and his Master of Science in statistics from the University of Michigan. His doctoral research focused on optimizing personalized treatment plans for patients with chronic disease. He completed his Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.
