Tayo Black is an expert in concept development and engineering, specializing in the intersection of advanced technologies and aviation operations. With over 18 years of experience as an engineer and technical project manager, she has led projects focused on flight and flow information systems, new entrants, novel aircraft design, and air traffic management—including traffic flow management and UAS traffic management.

At CNA, Black supports initiatives at the Federal Aviation Administration to modernize the National Airspace System for emerging technologies such as augmented reality, mixed reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence/machine learning. She provides technical analysis on a National Airspace System information-sharing platform and teaches internal courses on National Airspace System operations for new analysts and engineers.

Prior to joining CNA, Black was a senior engineering manager for the preliminary design analysis on a vertical takeoff and landing business jet. She was also a senior aerodynamics engineer, performing computational fluid dynamics modeling, simulation, and analysis in support of the certification of a single-engine jet that won the National Aeronautic Association’s Collier Trophy.

Black has a Master of Science in aerospace engineering from California State University, Long Beach, and a Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering from the University of Michigan. She holds private pilot and remote pilot certificates.
