Data Science Predictive Analytics Program

CNA provides the Navy with analytical support grounded in machine learning — especially the Performance to Plan efforts under the Vice Chief of Naval Operations. We facilitate data-driven decision-making through predictive capabilities that yield more accurate forecasts and point toward better performance. Our data scientists combine high-level skills in Python, R, cloud computing, and databases with operational experience from working directly with commanders and operating forces.

We have an exceptional data science group at the Center for Naval Analyses that uses data in incredibly powerful ways.

Case Study: Big Data Keeps Fighters Flying

Fewer than half of Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets were mission-capable in 2018. The Navy leaned on CNA predictive analytics to help meet a demanding target from the Secretary of Defense to get more jets in the air.

CNA Data Science and Performance to Plan

CNA is the Navy’s data science partner in its Performance to Plan process, known as P2P. CNA employs machine learning algorithms to predict performance and identify root causes of problems in aircraft, ship and submarine maintenance, as well as personnel issues.
