1. In FY 2003 there was a change in the way DoD reported race/ethnicity data. However, the new race data were not available for all services until after the first quarter of FY 2003.
As a result, the DoD data for individual race groupings reflect accessions for only the last three quarters of FY 2003.
2. First quarter total accessions were added to DoD second through fourth quarter subtotals in order to illustrate cross-year aggregate comparisons. FY 2003 percentages by race grouping
are for the last three quarters of FY 2003.
3. Population Representation in the Military Services (POPREP) is based on data from DMDC. Breakouts of accessions by service component and prior/non-prior service designation
will not match reports by individual services because of differences in defining PS accessions.
4. The race groupings used in this table reflect the number of individuals who indicate a single racial identity. Individuals who self-identify as multiracial are counted in the
"two or more" category.
