Where are the highly ranked cybersecurity programs located?

There were a quarter of a million job postings in cybersecurity in 2014. Information security analysts currently receive a median salary of over $90,000.

Interested in joining this high-demand, high-wage field? Below is an interactive map produced by CNA research specialist Rikesh Nana depicting where students, guidance counselors, career and technical education coordinators, and others can find highly ranked cybersecurity programs across the country.

To use the tool, simply:

  1. Click on the state where you are interested in finding a highly ranked cybersecurity program.
  2. Use the checkbox at the top right corner to choose programs that fit the degree level you are seeking (e.g., associate’s degree).
  3. Select "Yes" in the middle right dropdown menu to choose programs that were highly ranked by HP Enterprise Security.
  4. Select either "Cyber Defense" or "Information Assurance" in the bottom right dropdown menu to choose types of programs that were recommended by the NSA.

Methodology:

The dataset of cybersecurity programs was compiled from a list of the NSA’s National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity and was then merged with a list of schools that were highly ranked by a 2014 Hewlett Packard survey of 2,000 IT security practitioners. The data were then imported into Tableau.
