Emergency Preparedness

CNA has broad experience across the entire Homeland Security enterprise, which provides us with the expertise required to take an integrated approach to supporting emergency preparedness activities. CNA works with federal departments and agencies, including:

  • The Department of Homeland Security, supporting the National Exercise Program and the development of tools for the National Preparedness Goal, including the Target Capabilities List;
  • The Department of Health and Human Services, providing analytical support to the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response on a wide range of activities, including development of plans and policies, design and evaluation of exercises, and analyses of real-world events;
  • The Department of Defense, helping Northern Command and the service components assess their roles responding to catastrophic events such as Hurricane Katrina; and
  • The Department of Agriculture, supporting preparedness activities for foreign animal disease and avian influenza outbreaks, as well as the analysis of responses to real-world outbreaks such as Exotic Newcastle Disease.

In addition to these federal agencies, CNA works on emergency preparedness issues from public health to agricultural concerns with a wide range of states and local jurisdictions, including California; North Carolina; Illinois; Delaware; Texas; Washington, DC; the National Capital Region; the Hampton Roads Region, Virginia; and others.
