CNA will be supporting local law enforcement planning for the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Due to the magnitude of these two political events, additional police officers from agencies across the region will supplement local law enforcement. The goal of this project is to support these local law enforcement agencies in planning for security operations during the conventions by providing on-site analytic support and documenting lessons learned and best practices that will be shared throughout the law enforcement community in future special security events.
To accomplish this goal, CNA’s approach will cover both the planning phrase and the operations phase for the conventions. As part of the project, we will develop: (a) technical assistance memoranda detailing the training assistance needs of the host law enforcement agencies; (b) a “Quick-Look” report developed within 48-hours after the events to identify preliminary lessons learned and best practices for each convention venue; (c) a comprehensive after-action report documenting law enforcement best practices and areas for improvement across the convention venues; and (d) an executive briefing for wide-scale dissemination to law enforcement leadership, documenting best practices for large-scale special security events.
