A general concept of large scale amphibious assault operations is described in this research contribution. Tasks and staff functions of the Commander Amphibious Task Force (CATF) and Commander Landing Force (CLF) are described in the report. Staff functional relationships are described in terms of sets and subsets of activities. A method is presented for determining the most typical activity pattern of a staff in response to external events. The method is applied to a sample of 52 hypothetical events to suggest optimal ways of staff partitioning.
