Alexandria, Va. – CNA announced today that Ken McGinnis and Karl Becker have joined the not-for-profit research organization as directors in charge of developing and managing CNA’s work in the field of corrections.
“We are extremely excited to have Ken and Karl with CNA. The addition of a corrections practice greatly complements our other criminal justice work,” said Tim Beres, vice president and director of CNA Safety and Security. “The focus they bring to improving operations for correctional institutions fits perfectly with CNA’s 70-year history of bringing innovative ideas and solutions to our clients’ operational issues.”
McGinnis has been involved in virtually every aspect of correctional management and operations over the course of his 30-year public service career. He has served as the director of the Michigan Department of Corrections and as the director of the Illinois Department of Corrections. He also has worked as a warden in maximum-, medium-, and minimum-security institutions and received a number of national awards for his contributions to the field of corrections. In the last twelve years Ken has served as a consultant in security and management issues to numerous state, local and federal correctional and detention facilities and systems.
Becker has more than 25 years’ experience working with federal, state, and local criminal justice agencies. He specializes in management, health care and financial administration of correctional systems and has extensive expertise in institutional and departmental staffing assessments. During Becker’s tenure as deputy director of the Illinois Department of Corrections, he was responsible for managing the planning, construction, and operation of 17 new correctional institutions housing more than 15,000 inmates; administering a $1.4 billion budget to support the management of 75,000 inmates and parolees; and overseeing health services, planning, fiscal, procurement, and information service programs for the department. He also served as a senior finance official for Illinois State government, with responsibility for state employee health insurance, worker’s compensation programs, and criminal justice system issues.
CNA is a not-for-profit organization that serves the public's interests by providing in-depth research and solutions-oriented analyses to help decision makers choose the best course of action in setting policy and managing operations.
