ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Today, CNA announced that the 35th annual Population Representation in the Military Services Fiscal Year 2008 report is now available at http://prhome.defense.gov/PopRep2008/index.html  This report, sponsored by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness and prepared by CNA, presents detailed information on the demographic, educational, and aptitude characteristics of the U.S. military force.
"CNA has leveraged its expertise with military manpower data to create a report that will inform policymakers, researchers, and the public for years to come," Dr. Paul E. Speer, president of CNA's Center for Naval Analyses, noted.
The report's executive summary highlights five areas in the U.S. military services and the Coast Guard:
  • Endstrength, accessions, and continuation rates
  • Quality of enlisted accessions
  • Representation of women in the U.S. military
  • Representation of various racial and ethnic groups in the U.S. military
  • Home communities of active component enlisted accessions
The report's detailed technical appendices provide data on the demographic, educational, and aptitude characteristics of applicants, new recruits, enlisted personnel, and officers of the active and reserve components, as well as time-series information on selected characteristics in approximately 150 tables.
