ALEXANDRIA, Va. — CNA announced today that Sherri Goodman is promoted from vice president to senior vice president, General Counsel and Board Secretary. Reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Robert J. Murray, Goodman is also the executive director of CNA's Military Advisory Board (MAB), which recently released its report "Powering America's Defense: Energy and the Risks to National Security" (www.poweringamericasdefense.org).
"Sherri's initiation of CNA's Military Advisory Board has provided an opportunity for the MAB to combine assessment of information on energy security and climate change with the expertise of senior military officers in national security to find the place where they intersect," said Murray. "I appreciate Sherri's leadership and business acumen in this and many other leading-edge initiatives. Her promotion recognizes her talent and value to CNA."
Before joining CNA in 2001, Goodman was Deputy Undersecretary of Defense (Environmental Security), serving as the chief environmental, safety, and occupational health officer for the Department of Defense.
As an attorney, prior to her work at the Department of Defense, Goodman practiced law at Goodwin Procter and served on the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee, working for the Chairman, Sen. Sam Nunn. She has also worked at RAND and SAIC.
Goodman received a J.D. cum laude from the Harvard Law School and a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. She received her Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from Amherst College.
