The CNA Corporation's Dr. Gary Federici received the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Medal of Distinguished Service from the Director of the NRO and the Under Secretary of the Air Force, Mr. Peter Teets. This award is one of the highest the NRO can award a civilian.

A DoD agency, the NRO designs, builds and operates the nation's reconnaissance satellites. NRO products are provided to agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Department of Defense (DoD), and can warn of potential trouble spots around the world, help plan military operations, and monitor the environment.

"Dr. Federici's efforts have directly and measurably contributed to the success of the NRO and our national objectives, and reflect great credit upon himself, the Center for Naval Analyses, the Department of the Navy, and the National Reconnaissance Office," said Teets in the official award citation.

Dr. Federici holds a PhD in Mathematics from Syracuse University and is an expert in communications and information systems, space and satellite technology and the impact of emerging information technologies on military operations. He has been an analyst and CNA since 1978.
