REL Appalachia will host a webinar, "Increasing Student Engagement in Low Performing Schools", on December 11. Moderated by Dr. Ryoko Yamaguchi, acting deputy director for REL Appalachia, the panel will include presentations by both a researcher and practitioners.
Dr. Chris Hulleman, a nationally recognized researcher on student engagement, will begin the webinar by discussing current research on types of student engagement, the relationship between student engagement and student achievement, and associated challenges. Dr. Patrick Murphy, superintendent of the Arlington Public School district in Virginia, will review his experience with student engagement, speaking to examples of strategies he has promoted. Dr. Murphy will be joined by Ms. Maureen Nesselrode, who is the principal of Campbell Elementary School in Arlington, VA. Dr. Yamaguchi will wrap up the webinar, and a question and answer session will follow.
