June 7, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. — Dr. Charles Kupchan, Shepardson Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, will be the distinguished speaker at CNA's National Security Seminar on Thursday, June 7. In his new book, “No One’s World: The West, the Rising Rest, and the Coming Global Turn,” Dr. Kupchan argues that the world is headed for political and ideological diversity as the West’s preeminence slips away. He contends that the Western order will not be displaced by a new great power or dominant political model. Rather, the world will be interdependent but without a center of gravity or global guardian.
Charles Kupchan is also professor of international affairs at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. He was director for European affairs at the NSC during the first Clinton administration. Before joining the NSC, he was a member of the Policy Planning Staff at the Department of State. Prior to government service, he was an assistant professor of politics at Princeton University. Dr. Kupchan is the author of seven books on geopolitics and numerous articles on international and strategic affairs. He received a BA from Harvard University and MPhil and DPhil degrees from Oxford University.
Attendance by invitation only.
