Sherri Goodman, CNA senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, moderates the first panel of the Climate, Energy & National Security Forum (Earth Observations IV), organized by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies and the Alliance for Earth Observations on June 9 at Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.
The forum considered issues related to the unprecedented economic opportunities presented by climate change -- and the complex interplay between climate, energy and national security.
Goodman’s panel discussed "Responding to the Urgency of Climate Change—The New Information Demands and the Melting Arctic." Panelists will include the State Department’s Julie Gourley, Senior Arctic Official of the United States, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs; Robert Huebert, Ph.D., Professor, Department of Political Science and The Centre for Military and Strategic Studies, University of Calgary; the National Science Foundation’s Martin Jeffries, Ph.D., Program Director, Arctic Observing Network, in the Division of Arctic Sciences’ Office of Polar Programs, and Rear Admiral David W. Titley, Ph.D., Oceanographer of the Navy/Director, Task Force Climate Change.
