Event: June 28, 2004

The CNA Corporation's Project Asia China Studies Center hosted an international conference on the state of the Chinese media June 28th and 29th. Over the course of two days a distinguished group of scholars of the Chinese media, Chinese media professionals, and noted journalists who cover China gathered at CNA to examine the remarkable changes that are taking place in all of the mainland's media to include newspapers, television and the Internet.

Panelists examined the implications of media commercialization and the decrease in government funding, the state of the journalism profession in China, the new roles being played by television, the changing dynamic between the Chinese media and the government, and the impact of the Internet.
