The Fourth Annual Navy Workforce Research and Analysis Conference, sponsored by VADM Gerald L. Hoewing (N1), was held March 29th and 30th at the Sheraton Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, VA. The conference brought together Navy's leadership and the research community to discuss how better to integrate R&D efforts and leadership's vision for manpower, personnel, and training. In addition to CNA, other major conference participants were the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the Navy Personnel Research, Studies, and Technology (NPRST) office, and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). All conference presentations are being posted to the Naval Postgraduate School's website: http://www.sm.nps.navy.mil/nwc/.
CNO Admiral Vern Clark told the over 300 people in attendance that he will pursue a new human resources strategy for the Navy, which will support its commitment to investments in people. At the conference luncheon, Congressman Ed Schrock (R-VA) discussed a range of issues, including better use of simulators and UAVs, concern for the shipbuilding industrial base, and the need to properly compensate the Reserves. At a conference reception, Matt Henry, former N1B, was presented with the ADM J. M. Boorda Award for Outstanding Integration of Policy and Analysis.
CNA will publish a post-conference summary, relating research presented at the conference to the CNO and CNP's priorities, in late June.
