CNA's Integrated Ship Database (ISDB):
A Rapid-Access Database of Naval Ship Information

CNA's Integrated Ship Database (ISDB) is a collection of ship information from multiple, authorized U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government sources. This page provides access to the most recent database update and to archived updates (each of which includes a cover memo outlining the changes that were included in the update).

Before using the database, please browse these basic instructions. Basic layout and instructions.(PDF)

Why an Archive?

Although the most recent database update will contain most of the information needed concerning particular ships throughout the fleet's history, the archive offers additional details about the history of a particular ship.

For example, to determine that the mine countermeasure ships AVENGER, DEFENDER, SENTRY, and CHAMPION moved from the Naval Reserve fleet to the Active fleet in October 2007, you would need to compare the September 2007 and December 2007 updates.

The Integrated Ship Database was developed and is maintained by CNA researchers Greg Suess, suessg@cna.org 703.824.2231; and Lynette McClain, mcclainl@cna.org 703.824.2855. CNA librarian Rhea Stone assists with database updates.
