"Viscous-Fluid"-Like Collision (508K)

225 red agents and 225 blue agents (with similar offensive/defensive characteristics) collide and fight along a classic battle front.
Combat "Precession" (357K)

90 red and 90 blue agents collide near the center of the battlefield; the area of the most intense combat slowly precesses in the clockwise direction
"Ant-Swarm" Defense (516K)

90 red agents attack a defending blue force consisting of 125 blue agents. The blue squad has a 2:1 advantage in sensor and fire ranges and defends its territory as though it were a decentralized ant swarm.
"Ant-Swarm" Defense w/Blue Comms On (167K)

90 red agents attack a defending blue force consisting of 125 blue agents. The scenario is the same as for Ant-Swarm Defense but here blue agents communicate the information in their sensor range S to all friendly agents within a communications range = 3 * S
Penetration (457K)

250 red agents and 250 blue agents. The scenario is the same as for Explosive Collision but here the blue agents have communications turned on.
"Battle-Front Map" (456K)

A Battle-Front Map (BFM) is a filtered view of the battlefield that highlights regions in which the most intense combat is taking place (see BFM Screenshot). This avi shows a BFM filtered view of an unfolding battle consisting of 250 red agents and 250 blue agents.
Explosive Collision (397K)

250 red agents and 250 blue agents collide in a furious explosion near the center of the battlefield. While blue agents are relatively aggressive, red agents essentially want to fight everything is sight!
Multiple Skirmishes (871K)

250 red agents and 250 blue agents collide head-on and engage in multiple skirmishes of varying sizes. Red are slightly more aggressive and tend to cluster more with friendly agents than blue agents.
Notional Terrain (234K)

There are two squads per side: squad 1 consists of 100 agents, squad 2 consists of 50 "elite" agents (that can move quicker and are more potent offensively). Gray blocks represent impenetrable terrain-blocks that agents can see through but cannot traverse (i.e. lava pits).
Sensitive "Break Points" (Red 465K, Blue 470K)

There is one squad per side, and both red and blue have 250 agents. The parameters defining the two forces are identical: each has a movement range of 2 sites and is fairly aggressive (combat threshold is negative 3). Depending on initial conditions, the skirmish either breaks toward the red or blue flag.

"Autopoietic Skirmish?" (1.5Mb)

Autopoiesis (a term coined by Varela) literally means self-creation, and refers to the dynamics of self-organized systems that remain stable for long periods of time despite matter and energy continually flowing through them. In this example 250 red agents and 250 blue agents undergo an autopoietic-like battle. The central cluster first rotates counterclockwise and drifts slowly toward the red goal, comes to a stop, reverses direction and moves toward the blue flag, then reverses direction once again and moves back toward the red flag before finally disintegrating.
