The Safety and Security Center draws on more than 60 years of national security experience.

With more than six decades of national security experience, including responses to national emergencies and crises, CNAC brings a unique foundation of experience to our Safety and Security Center efforts. The Safety and Security Center's functional expertise lies in: homeland security operations and strategic policy development; planning, programming, and budgeting; program management and planning; and training.

CNAC's Safety and Security Center provides analysis and guidance to support evolving standards and practices and gives recommendations for improving decision-making at all levels during crisis operations. We work with senior decision-makers in federal, state, and local agencies as well as with members of the homeland security professional community of law enforcement officials, firefighters, public health officials, and emergency medical personnel. The Safety and Security Center consults with experts and officials responsible for the security issues related to transportation and to nuclear, chemical, and biological concerns. We also work with specialists in the areas of infrastructure and communications at the federal, regional, state, and local levels to improve the coordination and cooperation among these disparate decision-makers.

Safety and Security Center Team

CNAC's Safety and Security team has, and continues to build, a knowledge base that is critical to supporting effective terrorism prevention, mitigation, response, and recovery. The Safety and Security team combines practical experience with a strong record of academic achievement.

Team members have held senior management positions in homeland security agencies at federal, state, and local levels. They have extensive experience in the design of exercises and games, are knowledgeable about critical homeland security technologies, and have worked closely with homeland security professionals in the field.

In addition, 90 percent have advanced degrees and more than half hold PhDs.

The Safety and Security team assisted government agencies in responding to the attacks of September 11, 2001, with researchers and operations analysts supporting response to the terrorist attacks and the incidents of anthrax contamination that followed. Today, we work at every level of homeland security.
