The CNA Corporation - Areas of Expertise
Research that works for work that matters

Through objective, independent research and analysis, we help public sector organizations tackle America's most complex domestic challenges.

On a broad range of issues—including health care, quality education for all children, safety and security within our borders, effective business and human capital management, and secure airspace—we help decision makers develop policies, programs and practices that succeed and have impact.

To progress as a nation, we must constantly assess the efficacy of our public policies, programs and operations, determine how to achieve the greatest impact, and understand how to reach those goals. Our research is designed to provide the information and insights that keep us moving forward. We conduct analyses that improve health care systems; offer tools for successful human capital management; deliver the technical services needed for air traffic control; and provide research and analyses to help ensure that no child is left behind.

We have established an impressive record of meeting the research and analysis needs of those who address domestic policy issues through our Institute for Public Research (IPR). IPR provides expert, high-level research and analysis at all levels of government as well as to non-profit organizations and other service providers. Building on The CNA Corporation's decades-long experience in the area or national security, IPR offers research and analyses methods that are innovative, time-tested, practical and effective.

We don't seek answers in ivory towers, rather, our work is defined by a unique brand of multi-disciplinary, field-based "real world" research and analysis—that we apply to the evermore-complex issues facing society and its leaders. Our research model is a living iteration of an insight Sir Isaac Newton had 300 years ago: that direct observation of events and people, by highly trained analysts, can improve practitioners' understanding of complex and dynamic processes. This model has been extremely valuable to a wide range of government decision makers. This is a hallmark of our scientific methodology—and ensures that the public policies, programs and operations developed for the future are tempered by an understanding of the complexities of the real world.

Our empirical approach to public interest research is increasingly important as unvarnished, objective analysis becomes increasingly rare. We provide decision makers with the kind of expert, cutting-edge analyses that can make the difference between good and great decisions—and between success and failure.
