Examining Education and Earnings Among Low-Income Students

Sponsor: The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation & The Hudson Institute

This study describes differences between low- and high-income students in postsecondary educational attainment and earnings. The authors created a comprehensive dataset using information on the high school, postsecondary, and workforce experiences of every public school student in the state of Florida belonging to a cohort of 144,545 students in the 9th grade in 1996.

Evaluating a Program to Expand Rigorous Coursework in Rural Schools

Sponsor: The Niswonger Foundation & The U.S. Department of Education

CNA Education serves as the external evaluator for the Northeast Tennessee College- and Career-Ready Consortium (NETCO), one of 49 winners of the U.S. Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation (i3) grant competition. NETCO, a group of 15 school districts partnered with the Niswonger Foundation, is working to expand the number of Advanced Placement, college/dual credit, and rigorous math, science, and foreign language courses available to students in isolated rural areas.  The program emphasizes course delivery through online technology enhanced professional development for teachers, and expanded college and career counseling programs.

How Teachers Use Data to Inform Practice and Improve Student Performance in Mathematics

Sponsor: Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education

Using Data is a professional development curriculum designed to help teachers use student achievement data to inform instructional decision making. CNA Education, in partnership with WestEd and TERC, is conducting a randomized controlled trial to examine the impact and efficacy of Using Data on teachers’ ability to use data and and improve student math performance in grades 4 and 5 in a large urban school system.  This evaluation is funded through the Institute of Education Sciences' Teacher Quality: Mathematics and Science Education grant program.
