Born in Toronto, Philip Haussmann grew up in Wilmington, Delaware where he cultivated his interests in science, technology, and Philadelphia sports teams. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Rice University in 2002. Afterwards, he attended UCLA for six years where he obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry and Molecular Nanotechnology.

In 2008, Haussmann left the field of chemistry to work for CNA as a Research Analyst in the Operations and Tactic Analysis division of the Center for Naval Analyses. During his professional career at CNA, he has co-authored several studies on a range of topics including submarine payload optimization, non-lethal weapons, rotary wing support to Navy special operations, statewide bovine foot and mouth disease response protocols, and the Navy’s role in confronting irregular challenges. He has facilitated several wargames and exercises and observed a Marine Special Operations exercise at the National Training Center. Additionally, he had a principal role in the design of the Army Training and Doctrine Analysis Center’s (TRAC’s) Irregular Warfare Tactical Wargame. In February 2010, he embarked upon the USS Carl Vinson during operation UNIFIED RESPONSE to help with the disaster response mission in Haiti. In November 2011, he traveled to Kabul to help facilitate a campaign planning wargame at ISAF Joint Command. He is currently stationed at Fort Leavenworth in direct support of TRAC.
