Kristin Oakley joined CNA’s Education division in July 2012 as part of the communications and marketing team. Prior to starting at CNA, Oakley graduated cum laude from Duke University with a double major in English and Visual & Media Studies (VMS).

As a senior at Duke, Oakley conducted an independent study on the early works of William Faulkner and produced a paper entitled “Faulkner in Love & on Love: Eros in the Early Life and Writings.” This paper explored Faulkner’s ideas on love and gender roles and the way his opinions evolved and manifested within his early works. Additionally, Oakley created an interactive iBook on the role of language for ESL students living in the U.S. for her VMS capstone project. The70-plus page book includes recordings of 16 languages, as well as portrait sets and video interviews of each student, and is soon to be published in the Apple store.

Oakley worked at three magazines including a literary arts magazine, a fashion magazine, and Duke’s own alumni magazine, Duke Magazine. Through these experiences, she wrote short articles, contributed graphics, and worked with editors to develop the magazine’s redesign. Oakley also worked at a photography agency, where she managed portfolios and archives, and at the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, where she worked with the curatorial staff to produce exhibitions.

Oakley was the recipient of multiple scholarships while at Duke and was on the Dean’s list four times. She was Editor-in-Chief of The Chanticleer, Duke’s undergraduate yearbook, during her senior year, and worked as a Gallery Guide at the Nasher Museum, conducting K-12 and adult tours. Oakley also spent time away from Duke exploring Argentina, England, New York City, and Australia.

Oakley’s background is in media production and writing; she is an avid photographer with a penchant for fonts, book design, and grammar. She has experience in web development, photography, publishing, and editing.
