Dr. Thomas Geraghty is a research analyst with CNA Education and serves as a full-time, on-site field scientist to the West Virginia Department of Education as part of the CNA-managed Regional Education Laboratory (REL) Appalachia. His work includes bringing the scientific perspective to decision making in addressing the most pressing research and analysis needs of the departments, providing on-site technical assistance, and acting as a liaison for research occurring through the REL and in CNA Education.
Geraghty joined CNA in 2008 working with CNA’s Resource Analysis Division (RAD) on the Readiness and Logistics Team. While with RAD he collected and analyzed Navy data on maintenance costs for expeditionary construction equipment and developed cost benchmarks for major pieces of equipment. He also conducted preliminary analysis of relationships between maintenance spending, equipment age, and service life, and developed a baseline maintenance budget for naval construction equipment. He also work on budgeting issues for AVDLRs (Aviation Depot Level Repairables), analyzing Naval aviation and supply data relating Flying Hour Program (FHP) costs to hours flown, and, in the area of the environment, conducted high-level analysis of defense acquisition process to identify points at which programs should deal with environmental planning issues. Studied policy documents, interviewed key subject matter experts.
Before joining CNA, Geraghty was 2001-08 Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (2001-2008), and a Production Control Specialist at Lockheed Martin Aerospace (199101995)
Geraghty holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Northwestern University, an M.S. and B.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Systems Engineering. (Click here to see an interview with Dr. Geraghty)
