Carol A. Lafley’s experience in the secretarial field spans more than 40 years. Since coming to CNA, she has gained valuable corporate knowledge that has enhanced her ability to deal with a variety of people and personalities. Her current responsibilities are to the President & CEO and Executive Vice President and COO.

Work History

CNA Assignments

  • 2001- Present  Executive Assistant to the President and CEO and the Executive Vice President and COO. Overall responsibilities include executive level support, coordinate the flow of paperwork, manage the President’s & EVP’s schedules, prepare President and EVP for meetings, initiate travel arrangements and correspondence on their behalf, offer guidance regarding protocol, and escort VIPs.
  • 1995  Secretary to the Controller and Assistant Treasurer, Finance and Accounting. Overall responsibilities included administrative support for Controller, Finance & Accounting, and BSG division.
  • 1991-95  Part-time Secretary to Director of Finance & Accounting. Overall responsibilities included administrative support to Finance & Accounting. Job-shared with another part-time secretary.

Other Experience

  • 1988-91  Marketing Coordinator and Secretary, W. A. Brown & Associates, P.C., Architects, Alex¬andria, VA. Marketing coordinator and secretary for 18-person architectural firm. Responsibilities included coordination and development of marketing materials and production of requests for proposals from CBD Government, municipal, and private sector clients.
  • 1984-88  Secretary to President, DLP & Associates, P.C., Architects. Secretary to President of 25-person architectural firm. Responsibilities included coordination of meetings and mate¬rial, production of marketing materials, and coordination with consultants on requests for proposals.
  • 1980-84  Legal Secretary for multi-professional firm. As secretary in professional office for two attorneys and a construction specifications writer, my responsibilities included every¬thing from preparing all correspondence, to filing legal documents with the court sys¬tem, to assisting in the production of house settlements, to screening telephone calls.
  • 1976-78  Secretary to Vice President of Communications, United Way of America. Responsible for coordinating the production of speeches, scripts for NFL commercials, travel arrangements for NFL players, as well as daily communications.
  • 1967-74  Secretary, Office of Secretary of the Army and Secretary of Defense, Pentagon.

Education

  • 1966-67  Washington School for Secretaries.
