Rozanne L. Ridgway ‘s 32-year Foreign Service career included assignments as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Canadian Affairs, Ambassador to the German Democratic Republic, Ambassador to Finland, Ambassador for Oceans and Fisheries Affairs, and Counselor of the Department of State. Retiring in 1989, Ambassador Ridgway was president and subsequently, co-chair of the Atlantic Council of the United States.  She has been a Trustee of CNA since 1992 and Chairman of the Board since December, 2009.

Currently a member of the Board of Directors of Emerson Electric Company, Ambassador Ridgway is retired from the boards of Boeing, 3M, Sara Lee, Manpower, Union Carbide, Bell Atlantic, Citicorp and Berlitz. Ambassador Ridgway is also a retired trustee for National Geographic Society and of several mutual funds. She was a founding director and is the Chairman Emeritus of the Baltic-American Enterprise Fund and the Baltic-American Freedom Foundation. She was selected as a Corporate Director of the Year in 2001.

Ambassador Ridgway is a member of the Board of the Washington Institute of Foreign Affairs and the Senior Living Foundation of the American Foreign Service. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a fellow of the American Academy of Diplomacy and the National Academy of Public Administration.

Ambassador Ridgway’s numerous awards and decorations include the Presidential Citizens Medal, the Presidential Distinguished Performance Award (twice), and the Distinguished Service Award of the Secretary of State. She has been decorated by the governments of Finland and Germany. She holds many honorary degrees and in 1998, was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame. In 2011, Ambassador Ridgway received the American Foreign Service Association Award for Lifetime Contributions to American Diplomacy and, in 2012, the Foreign Service Corporation awarded by DACOR (Diplomatic and Consular Officers, Retired).

Ambassador Ridgway is married to Captain Theodore E. Deming, US Coast Guard (ret.) and resides in Arlington, Virginia.
