Board of Trustees
Guest Scholar, Economic Studies Program, The Brookings Institution
Ms Rice's distinguished career, especially in the field of education, has brought richly deserved recognition. Her 20-year association with the College Board (CEEB), including her service as its vice president, was interrupted only by further service in her field—a sabbatical year with the Ford Foundation as an educational specialist in West Africa and another year as consultant with the Economic Studies Program at The Brookings Institution. She then served 10 years as Senior Vice President, Government and Public Affairs with Control Data Corporation. For the past 15 years, she has been a Guest Scholar and the Miriam Carliner Scholar in the Economic Studies Program at Brookings.
In addition to serving on a variety of boards, councils, and commissions—past and present—Mrs. Rice has authored or co-authored a number of education and technology-related publications and is called on to speak publicly or to testify in the U.S. Congress on these subjects. Her honors are many—from honorary degrees at major universities; to the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Award for "Outstanding Citizen" Distinguished Services to Education; to Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Women; to recognition by Change magazine as one of the nation's 100 outstanding higher education administrators and by Ebony magazine as one of the 100 most promising black women in corporate America.
